Handmade steamed buns at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market
包仔手工包点, or Bao Zai Handmade Buns, is a steamed bun specialist at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market & Hawker Centre, crafting handmade bao in the traditional Cantonese style. The stall produces a variety of steamed buns with fillings that typically include char siew (barbecued pork), chicken, vegetable and sweet lotus paste, all made fresh daily. The emphasis on handmade production, as highlighted in the stall name, means each bun is individually shaped and filled, resulting in a soft, fluffy exterior with a generous, flavourful centre. The char siew bao, with its glossy, savoury-sweet filling encased in a pillowy white dough, is likely the standout. Located within the neighbourhood hawker centre along Lorong 8 Toa Payoh, the stall serves the local community with a product that is both a breakfast staple and a convenient snack throughout the day. The handmade approach distinguishes Bao Zai from mass-produced alternatives, offering a texture and quality that factory-made buns cannot replicate. For residents and visitors to Toa Payoh who appreciate the craft of traditional Chinese steamed buns, Bao Zai provides a fresh, authentic and satisfying option at hawker prices.Operating Hours

My reference for a good bao is the one from 南记—big, juicy, and with thin skin. This one met all expectations except for the size. However, it is cheaper, so it balances out. Recommended.
