Fried carrot cake stall at Tiong Bahru Market
Kampong Carrot Cake is a fried carrot cake (chai tow kway) stall at Tiong Bahru Market, serving the classic Singapore hawker dish of stir-fried radish cake. The stall offers both the white (savoury) and black (sweet soy sauce) versions, where cubes of steamed radish cake are wok-fried with preserved radish, egg, and chilli, with the black version incorporating sweet dark soy for a caramelised finish. The quality of chai tow kway hinges on the texture of the radish cake and the wok hei imparted during frying, and Kampong Carrot Cake is known for achieving a well-crisped exterior while keeping the interior soft. Tiong Bahru Market is a cherished hawker destination in one of Singapore's oldest housing estates, and Kampong Carrot Cake contributes to its strong lineup of traditional stalls. The dish remains a breakfast and lunch favourite, with locals queuing for a plate of freshly fried carrot cake that captures the essence of Singapore hawker comfort food.Based on 96 Google reviews

Carrot cake owner is very rude. The carrot cake comes with 1 spoon and when i ask for a chopstick, he claimed that he can only give 1 cutlery as I order 1 person share. He even say me which sentence did I say that you don't understand. …

It has lost some taste over the years… could not taste the chilli and some parts were a bit bland. It was very eggy though! Its ok owners getting a bit old…

This was my first try of carrot cake. It had an interesting texture- almost chewy but crunchy in bits, really powerful flavors, some bitter, salty, sweet, then the pack of spicy! The lady asked if I wanted spicy and I said little spice but it was properly spicy and addictive.

I’ve always enjoyed this old-school style fried black carrot cake. The flavor is rich and nostalgic, and I definitely prefer the black version over the white. So glad I got to enjoy it again before the upcoming upgrades—hopefully the prices stay the same!
