Famous hawker stall for clear, savoury fish soup
Han Kee Fish Soup is a renowned hawker stall celebrated for its clean, savoury fish soup that has become a benchmark for this humble Singaporean dish. Operating from Amoy Street Food Centre, the stall has earned a loyal following for its no-frills approach and consistently excellent broth. The simplicity of the offering belies the skill and care that goes into every bowl.\n\nThe fish soup features slices of fresh batang fish in a clear, sweet broth made from fish bones and fried egg, simmered until the liquid turns a rich, milky amber. The soup is served with a choice of rice or noodles, and accompanied by vegetables such as bittergourd or tomato that complement the seafood flavours. Each bowl is prepared to order, ensuring that the fish remains tender and the broth piping hot.\n\nHan Kee has achieved near-legendary status among Singapore's hawker stalls, with long queues a daily occurrence. The stall exemplifies the principle that mastery of a simple dish can be more impressive than the most elaborate menu, drawing fish soup devotees from across the island who consider it the gold standard.Based on 670 Google reviews

IMO, the food is not worth the rude and cocky service. $6.50 for a small sliced fish soup with rice, which tasted fresh enough. Soup may be too peppery and salty for some. Long snaking queue starts as early as before 9am apparently, even if the stall only opens at 10:30am. The service is pretty quick after they take your order though. Joined the line on a Friday at 10:25am, and waited about 30min for the food. But try only if you are okay to bear with the horrible attitude of the stall folks towards their customers.

The startlingly long queue that snakes towards Han Kee Fish Soup is a sight to behold at lunch time, but thankfully, service is rather swift and organised. When one is about 15 people away from the collection point, one of the staff would …

Very fierce aunty! But the sour taste in your mouth from getting scolded goes really well with the broth. Prepare your cash in advance, and rehearse your order in your head while queueing, don't blur or you'll really kena one times good one from her. If you are a tourist good luck. Fish slices are thick, bouncy, and very generous.
